Originally released in 1982 the final single from Brooklyn based multi instrumentalist Freddie Thompson’s Panache band has been given an official reissue on Isle Of Jura. I combined the Original and Dub versions into an extended 12 minute ride with live percussion and a more Dubby feel. Reviewed on Juno here the 12″ is now in all good record stores. Thanks to Phonica for making it an Essential release this week.

I played at the RCC here in Adelaide on 7th March as part of the annual Fringe festival and was interviewed afterwards alongside good friend Mehdi from Condesa Electronics for Groundfloor Radio.

The second in a series of three 12″s from The Pearls is out now including an extended edit where i combined the original and dub version. The original was released in 1980 on their Reality Hits label and is another Rap/Reggae/Disco hybrid and an all round feel good tune. The third and final 12″ will drop later this year, a more rootsy affair of 2 originals and 2 dubs.
From 2002 to 2004 i was label manager for Fine Records which was based in Denmark Street in Soho, as a result i became somewhat of a regular customer at Phonica Records which was a 5 minute walk from the office. So of course its very nice to see that the ‘Transmission Two’ compilation made the Phonica ‘Best Of’ 2020 round up ?.
Utopian State is an all ages, 3 day picnic event coming this summer over the Christmas & New Year’s break. Set at Papershell farm, the location is really special and set in the middle of the SA countryside. I’m playing on 29th December in the selectors tent alongside some local legends, it will be a special gig and amazingly its just 15 minutes from my house :-). Tickets available here.
